Getting Around
Bus
The easiest way to navigate the Thessaloniki bus system is by downloading the app: OASTH. Live timetables show the closest bus stations and departure times.
Bike Rentals
Bike riding is a popular and fun activity around the city. There are app-based bikes for hire around the city center.
Parking
Street parking is free but might not always be available. You can contact us before arriving to ensure there is space available for you.
Taxis
There are more than a dozen taxi companies in the city. There is a taxicab stand 100m from the house. Always check that the meter is on if you flag a taxi from the street, to avoid extra charges. The preferred and most secure option is the FREE NOW app.
Walking
The area around the house is easily accessible by foot, bus, or public transport. Getting a car is recommended if you are planning a longer stay
The city of Thessaloniki lends itself well to exploring on foot. The walk from the center to the apartment is uphill and takes about half an hour with frequent stops to admire the view. A late-evening sunset view is a must-do!

Trigonion Tower
The second most important tower of the city was built in the late 15th century. Now, it is a popular meeting and sunset-watching spot that is free for visitors to explore.

Yedi Kule – Eptapyrgio
A Byzantine-era fortress that is commonly known by the name given to it under Ottoman occupation (Yedi Kule). It functioned as an infamous prison from the late 19th century until 1989. A small part is still open to this day for visitors.

Pasha’s Garden
Around the Agios Dimitrios hospital area, you will find the Pasha’s Gardens constructed in 1904. There are plenty of spots to admire the view towards the city below.

Vlatades Monastery
Beautiful monastery founded in 1360 and one of the city’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Church of Saint Nicholas Orphanos
Another 14th-century church that is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list.

Latomos Monastery
Very close to Vlatades Monastery, also known as the Church of Hosios David. It was used as a mosque during the Ottoman occupation period. Also, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Ataturk Museum
A three-floor house near the Turkish consulate that was once the birthplace of the founder of modern Turkey. It houses a lot of original furniture items as well as photographs of the life of Kemal Ataturk.

Seih Sou Forest
A 30-acre forest right outside the city, popular with locals and a great spot for biking and hiking. The forest is also home to the city’s main zoo and various open-air theatres that are used for festivals, theatre plays, and other gatherings.

Halkidiki
Halkidiki boasts some of the best beaches in the country and unique sights, including the Monasteries of Agios Oros. With a bit of planning, you can beach-hop, rent a boat, or spend the day sunbathing on a nearby beach before dining in one of the local tavernas.

Lake Kerkini
A wetland sanctuary teeming with birdlife. Perfect for a day tour to explore the lake, taste local delicacies, such as buffalo meat products, go horse riding, and visit local wineries.

Pozar Thermal Baths
Only 1 and a half hours from the city, Pozar is a well-known thermal spa and wellness destination. You can combine this with a visit to the city of Edessa, and see the biggest waterfalls in the Balkans.
